Avontuur Wine Estate

Winery Description

Location and History

Avontuur Estate, home of fine wines and fast horses, nestles against the Helderberg Mountains between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. Avontuur has been producing quality wine grapes for more than 140 years and this historical commitment is still reflected today in their range of award-winning wines. Avontuur grows three white grape varietals, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier, as well as seven reds: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Pinotage, Shiraz and Petit Verdot.

Be captivated by the exquisite views over False Bay and the iconic Table Mountain with a magnificent backdrop of the Helderberg Mountain. Add to this a vista graced with our prided racehorses, Avontuur is a picture-perfect and unforgettable setting.

Avontuur is currently undergoing an extensive 45 ha replanting project to ensure that only the highest quality fruit will be going into their wines.

Wine Tasting

The modern and cosy tasting room at Avontuur is in keeping with the family-owned winery atmosphere. Seating is at the bar counter, at our wooden tables or sofas – or outside during the summer months overlooking the paddocks and mountains.

Various specialised tastings and pairings are offered, which change seasonally. These can be coupled with cheese or deli platters, to be enjoyed in the venue or on the terrace.

The Estate Wine Range includes Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé and a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot Blend. The Premiere Range includes their flagship wine, the Baccarat, a blend of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Other wines in the Premiere Range is the Shiraz Reserve, Cabernet Franc Reserve, Chardonnay Reserve and Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. Avontuur also produces MCC and Brandy.

Restaurant

The Avontuur Restaurant offers a range of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, decorated in an eclectic mix of old and new with a warm inviting atmosphere. The sun-drenched terrace, with its vine-draped pagodas, has spectacular views of the paddocks, vines and Table Mountain and is popular in summer. In winter a cosy fire and underfloor heating welcomes our guests.

The a la carte menu has an emphasis on organic and local produce, including hearty breakfasts whilst the lunch menu features options such as salads, quiches, grilled meats, salmon and delectable desserts.
