Winery Description

Location and History

Positioned on the picturesque Paardeberg Mountain between Malmesbury and Paarl, Babylon's Peak is renowned for its striking granite outcrop that inspires its name. This private cellar benefits from an elevated position, with some of the region's highest vineyards resting at 700 meters above sea level. This location contributes to the vineyards' distinct terroir, characterized by well-draining rocky soils which enhance the quality and flavor profile of the wines. The winery has been in the Basson family for four generations, with current winemaker Stephan Basson taking the reins in 2003 alongside his father. Their collective experience and commitment to quality winemaking reflect in the character and depth of each bottle produced. Visitors will appreciate the breathtaking mountainous views and the tranquil atmosphere surrounding the estate, making it an ideal destination for wine enthusiasts seeking a unique and scenic experience.
