Badsberg
Winery Description
Location and History
Badsberg Wine Cellar is positioned in an ideal location in the Rawsonville area of the Breede Valley, conveniently near the Goudini Spa holiday resort, 20 km from Worcester, and approximately 80 km from Cape Town. The region experiences a distinct climate illustrated by the deep, dark soil that supports the growth of premium hanepoot grapes along with a variety of other cultivars. The establishment of Badsberg in 1951 marked a significant period in local winemaking, as it was founded as a cooperative cellar tailored for local producers to showcase their table wines. As local farmers moved towards winemaking in response to challenges within the raisin market, Badsberg emerged as a collaborative space. The vineyard benefits from the picturesque views of the Badsberg Mountain and lush greenery that adorns the valley, making it a fantastic spot for visitors looking for scenic wine experiences. As the cooperative model allowed for autonomy among farmers, it formed a community responsible for evolving the winery’s reputation through commitment to quality and sustainable practices, ensuring products resonate with the rich heritage of the location.
