Located near St Sebastian Bay, Baleia Wines boasts exclusive terroir, characterized by limestone soils and a Mediterranean climate. The farm has been in operation since 2009, when Jan-Hendrik Joubert discovered the area's unique qualities and decided to establish vineyards despite the challenging conditions of persistent winds and rocky soils. The Joubert family emphasizes respect and understanding for nature; their holistic approach to viticulture focuses centrally on sustainable practices. The winemaker, Gunter Schultz, lends his expertise to produce premium wines that articulate the distinctive mineral characteristics of the maritime environment. Baleia's vineyards are situated along the lower Duivenhoks River, benefiting from cooling breezes brought by the Indian Ocean.
