BOSJES
Winery Description
Location and History
The historic BOSJES farm, nestled in the fertile Breedekloof Valley and framed by the Waaihoek and Slanghoek mountains, has evolved into a serene retreat for families and a picturesque destination for weddings and functions. Surrounded by vineyards, orchards, and fynbos, this working Boland family farm offers a tranquil escape into nature.
At the heart of the estate lies the remarkable BOSJES Chapel, designed by Steyn Studio of London. Inspired by Psalm 36:7, the Chapel features an unadorned interior and glass walls that provide uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and gardens. Its distinctive undulating white roof appears to float on a pool of water, enhancing the quiet and calm atmosphere pervading the Chapel gardens.
The landscaped BOSJES Gardens, full of surprises, offer visitors informal play areas, a garden café, and a shop. The gardens are a tapestry of contrasts, with succulents, Renosterveld, indigenous forest, and water plants punctuated by a monolithic water sculpture. The Boombrug canopy walk and an elevated labyrinth reward meditative wanderers and adventurous young hikers with stunning views.
Wine Tasting
BOSJES has an elite range of wines crafted in collaboration with local vintners from the finest fruit of the Breedekloof Wine Valley. With a focus on quality over quantity, as few as 300 bottles per cultivar are produced, making these wines a rare and treasured find. While they don't offer wine tasting, their wine is available for purchase in their restaurant, the shop and online.
Restaurant
BOSJES Kombuis, the estate's restaurant, reflects the history and culinary traditions of the farm. A seasonal menu awaits visitors in a modern setting with high ceilings, glass walls, and a deck for al fresco dining, all designed to take full advantage of the surrounding vistas. A striking blue-and-white Delft-inspired mural depicting local fauna and flora adorns one of the exterior walls, created by Cape Town artists Michael Chandler and Lucie de Moyencourt.
Accommodation
Guests seeking luxury accommodation can stay at Herehuis. This original Cape Dutch homestead offers modern rooms with the graceful curves of the Manor House's original gable incorporated into the interiors. Guests can relax by the swimming pool, enjoy quiet time in the communal library, or dine in the in-house restaurant, Eetkamer, which serves a condensed à la carte menu for breakfast and dinner.
Tours and Activities
The original farm stables have been transformed into BOSJES Stalle, an intimate spa featuring six treatment rooms, a hydro pool, a sauna, and a modernised Rasul chamber. An elegant trough water feature pays homage to the farm's history. BOSJES is a popular destination for weddings.
