De Waal Wines
Winery Description
Location and History
Situated in the picturesque Stellenbosch Kloof Valley, De Waal Wines rests on Kloof Road in Vlottenburg. This historic estate is housed in a Cape Dutch Homestead dating back to 1791, surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of wine country. The winery represents a legacy of nine generations of De Waal winemakers, known for blending Old World finesse with New World fruitiness. The vineyards are located on warmer north-facing slopes and are characterized by fertile gravel and loam soil. The roots of the De Waal family in the region can be traced back to 1715, when Jan de Waal first arrived in Cape Town and started a farming legacy that continues through his descendants. The production of wine began on the family's Schotsekloof farm in 1760, contributing to their long-standing tradition in viticulture. The estate is renowned for its exceptional Pinotage wines, which honor the region's indigenous grape variety and uphold the family’s philosophy of quality winemaking.
