Winery Description

Location and History

Dornier Wine Estate is nestled in one of South Africa's most renowned wine regions, The Golden Triangle in Stellenbosch. This area is celebrated for its unique terroir, characterized by ancient decomposed granite soils and south-facing slopes, which play a pivotal role in the cultivation of grape varietals. Dornier combines the area's natural beauty with its rich winemaking history. The estate was established by Christoph Modeste Dornier, whose vision emphasized quality and artistry in wine production. Dornier Wine Estate encompasses three distinct farms: Groenkloof, Heldemeer, and Stellenrust. Stellenrust features a historic homestead designed by Sir Herbert Baker, along with one of the first wine cellars built in Stellenbosch. The vineyard benefits from diverse soil types and altitudes, enabling the winery to choose the best grape varieties suited for specific sites within the estate. Today, Dornier is known for its commitment to sustainability and possesses an A rating with the Wine Industry Ethical Trade Association (WIETA), reflecting its dedication to fair working practices in the South African wine industry.
