Druk My Niet
Winery Description
Location and History
Nestled in the Dal Josaphat Valley of the Boland region, Druk-My-Niet wine farm is surrounded by the majestic Hawekwa Mountains. The farm sits within a biosphere reserve, emphasizing sustainable farming practices that enhance its unique terroir. Established in 1692, the estate has transitioned through several ownerships before being acquired by Dorothee and Georg Kirchner in 2002. After a significant fire in 2017, the couple dedicated themselves to restoring the property, planting new vineyards and upgrading facilities. The 24-hectare estate is renowned for its Mediterranean climate, ideal for growing various grape varietals. The vineyard elevation ranges from 180 to 240 meters above sea level, allowing vines to benefit from cooler temperatures and reducing excessive growth. The granite soils present on the farm encourage deep-rooted vines that extract minerals crucial for producing quality wines. The integration of indigenous flora and fauna supports local biodiversity, creating a lush environment that visitors can appreciate.
