Durbanville Hills

Winery Description

Location and History

Wine production in Durbanville dates back to the late 17th century, but Durbanville Hills was only founded in the late 1990s. Seven local grape farmers, along with the beverage company Distell, collaborated to build the cellar as part of a joint venture to produce their own wine. Since the first vintage in 1999, the group has grown to include nine member farms, all located near the cellar. The youngest of these farms, Klein Roosboom, was established in 1714, highlighting the region's deep heritage. Durbanville Hills also features a modern winery, tasting facilities, and a popular restaurant offering stunning views. It caters to families, couples, weddings, and corporate events, pairing fine wines with exceptional cuisine.

Wine Tasting

Durbanville Hills offers a diverse range of wines to suit various palates. The flagship Durbanville Hills range features grapes sourced from member farms, delivering balanced wines with refined flavours that appeal to modern tastes. The premium Collector’s Reserve range is crafted from the finest grapes from Cape Town’s top vineyards. The Tangram range, made from carefully selected cultivars from Durbanville, showcases both elegance and longevity. Additionally, the estate offers Cellar Door exclusives and the Durbanville Hills Light wine range.

Durbanville Hills' relaxed indoor and outdoor tasting areas provide an ideal setting to unwind. The chic décor of the tasting room invites guests to linger in the lounge with its comfortable seating and views of the cellar, or enjoy the outdoor spaces at the Olive Grove Bistro or beneath the shade of olive trees.

Restaurant

Durbanville Hills' flagship restaurant, Tangram, offers a light and contemporary space with a double-volume ceiling, wood finishes, earthy tones, and South African décor, accompanied by panoramic views of Table Mountain, Table Bay, rolling hills, and vineyards. The wooden deck provides a perfect spot to enjoy a glass of crisp Sauvignon Blanc while children play in the nearby area.

For a more casual option, the Olive Grove Bistro, located next to the outdoor wine tasting area and children's jungle gym, offers a bright and airy café-style atmosphere. Tangram’s award-winning menu features simple yet sophisticated dishes, including grilled meats, spiced fish, vegan options, and homemade ice cream. The Olive Grove Bistro serves light fare such as fish and chips, sandwiches, and cheese or meat platters.
