Du'SwaRoo Wine and Olive Farm
Winery Description
Location and History
Du'SwaRoo wine farm, established in 2007, is the smallest wine cellar on the Klein Karoo wine route. Located just north of Calitzdorp on the road to Groenfontein, the farm lies across the secondary slopes of Besemkop, south of the Swartberg mountains. The farm is eight hectares, with three hectares under vineyard.
In addition to its wines, Du'SwaRoo Farm produces a variety of boutique products under the Du'SwaRoo Farm label. These include olive oil, table olives, dried olives, atchars, preserves, jellies, pickles, and various seasonal offerings. The farm sources all ingredients locally, either from its own crops or from neighbouring Klein Karoo farmers. There are around 900 olive trees on the farm.
Wine Tasting
The cellar produces limitedly boutique wines from grapes grown in its own Shiraz, Touriga Nacional, and Tinta Barocca vineyards and additional cultivars from neighbouring farms. Due to the small scale of production, Du'SwaRoo wines are unlikely to be found on the shelves of local bottle stores, so visiting the farm is essential for those seeking to taste these unique wines.
Wine Tasting at Du’SwaRoo includes olive and deli product tasting with crackers. This is a great way to sample their products while complimenting the wines. Wines available for tasting include Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Verdelho, Tinta Barocca, Touriga Nacional and Cape Vintage Port-style wines.
