Flagstone Wines
Winery Description
Location and History
Situated in Somerset West, Flagstone Winery operates from an old dynamite factory built in 1901, originally established by Cecil Rhodes for explosives manufacturing. This unique location enhances the intimate wine tasting experience. Flagstone boasts access to high-quality grapes sourced from various regions, including the Waaihoek Mountains and the Coastal Region, benefiting from the complex terroir shaped by local climate and soil types. The winery was founded in 1998 in Cape Town Harbour, marking it as one of South Africa's first wineries without its vineyard, and it was reinvented to emphasise creativity and distinctive flavours. The attention to detail in viticulture and winemaking reflects the passion and dedication of winemaker Gerhard Swart. The winery's commitment to ethical practices and sustainability is evident in its operational decisions and the winemaking philosophy, prioritising quality and environmental responsibility.
