Glenelly
Winery Description
Location and History
Glenelly Estate is located in the picturesque region of Stellenbosch, South Africa, at the foothills of the Simonsberg mountain range. The estate, which honors the heritage of French Huguenot settlers, was founded in 2003 by May de Lencquesaing, aiming to create a successful winery that contributes to the local community. Situated on historical farmland granted in 1682, the vineyard benefits from a unique terroir characterized by well-drained soils and a diverse microclimate. The founder's international wine experience sheds light on the dedication to producing world-class wines that showcase power, elegance, and balance. The estate honors its lineage through the distinctive 1783 stamp on its wine labels, symbolizing a legacy in the wine industry that stretches back nearly 250 years, initiated by Elie Miailhe, the family ancestor known as 'royal wine broker'. This rich history informs the vineyard's practices, from sustainable cultivation methods to a strong connection to the region's landscape and traditions.
