Nestled near Herbertsdale, Jakkalsvlei boasts a stunning landscape enriched by fertile soils and a warm, dry climate ideal for viticulture. The farm has been family-owned since 1972 by the Jonker family, who cultivate a variety of wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Garden Route. The region enjoys good water supply and is located about 40 km from the Indian Ocean, allowing for a diverse range of grape varieties. The vineyard's journey began with the planting of its first Chenin Blanc in 1987, and by 2008, the first wines under the Jakkalsvlei label were produced. This winery combines traditional techniques with modern practices to enhance the quality of its wines, including the renowned Lord Jackal range, which consists of premium offerings like Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc, crafted with attention to detail and a focus on showcasing local flavours.
