Jordan Wine Estate
Winery Description
Location and History
Set in the picturesque Stellenbosch Kloof, Jordan Wine Estate features a diverse terroir with south and east-facing slopes that benefit from the cooling influences of False Bay and the Benguela current. The estate spans 164 hectares and was established by owners Gary and Kathy Jordan, whose family has a deep-rooted history in the area dating back over 300 years. Gary's parents bought the now 164 hectare property in 1982 and embarked on an extensive replanting programme, specialising in classic varieties. The vineyards consist of both classic grape varieties and innovative cultivars, grown in decomposed granite and loamy soils at elevations of 220-350 meters above sea level. Sustainable practices are emphasised throughout the estate, particularly in the preservation of the local flora and fauna, including the Cape Dwarf Chameleon. The result is a distinctive range of wines that showcase the unique characteristics of the Stellenbosch region.
Wine Tasting
At Jordan Wine Estate, wine tasting is an immersive and educational experience. Guests can explore various tasting options, including the Reserve Range and the popular Timepiece series, which highlights wines from vineyards older than 35 years. The estate features a stunning tasting room where knowledgeable staff guide visitors through the diverse range of wines. The wine selection includes exquisite whites like the Barrel Fermented Chardonnay and the award-winning The Real McCoy Riesling, alongside reds such as Cobblers Hill and the soulful Sophia blend. Tasting sessions are available throughout the day, allowing guests to enjoy the estate's wines while soaking in breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.

Chef Marthinus has helped shape the South African food scene, with his flair for food gastronomy inspired by his childhood favourites and influences from abroad, having worked with some the world's top chefs, including Chef Gordon Ramsay and Chef Heston Blumenthal. The restaurant is housed in a renovated tobacco curing house surrounded by vineyards, overlooking a lake below the cellar.
The Cellar Door at Jordan combines the estate's award-winning wines at cellar door prices with fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced by chef Thys Esterhuysen.
