Winery Description
Location and History
Nestled in the picturesque Bottelary region of Stellenbosch, Kanu Wines boasts a terroir characterised by its unique soil and climate, ideal for viticulture. Originally part of the renowned Nooitgedacht farm, the winery has a rich heritage dating back to 1692, when it was awarded to Matthias Greef. Over the years, ownership has changed hands, with significant transformations taking place, notably under the guidance of Larry Jacobs and winemaker Mike Dobrovic. In 1997, the land became known as Kanu Wines, which continues to flourish under the leadership of Johan Grimbeek, the chief winemaker. The estate is known for its commitment to quality winemaking, showcased through its diverse range of wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and award-winning Cap Classiques. Surrounded by majestic mountains and fertile landscapes, Kanu Wines reflects the beauty of the region while providing an inviting atmosphere for wine lovers and tourists alike. Visitors can engage with the winery's captivating history and enjoy breathtaking views as they partake in the wine tasting journey.
