Location and History
Situated in the heart of the Plett Winelands, Kay & Monty Vineyards boasts a diverse and compelling terroir ideal for cool-climate wines. The vineyard spans just under eight hectares and features scenic views of the surrounding mountains and landscapes. Originally a protea farm and a dairy, the land was repurposed into a substantial 220-hectare estate dedicated to wine production, polo, and hosting weddings. The transformation journey began when the first vines were planted in 2009, leading to the first successful vintage released in 2012. The vineyard produces renowned cultivars, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir, with an emphasis on sustainable farming practices and a commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the area. The dedicated winemaking team takes pride in their craft, ensuring that each bottle reflects the unique character of its environment.
Wine Tasting
The vineyards at Kay & Monty Vineyards produce a variety of wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and a red blend made from Shiraz, Mourvèdre and Grenache. Wine tasting is offered in the tasting room restaurant, a beautifully transformed old orchid greenhouse nestled at the foothills of the mountains among the vineyards. This modern space with rustic charm provides a relaxed atmosphere where guests can explore a variety of meticulously crafted wines. Informative staff share their expertise and passion, enhancing the experience by offering insights into the winemaking process, vineyard history, and the unique characteristics of each wine. Restaurant
The old renovated orchid greenhouse provides an ideal setting for the tasting room restaurant and events venue, offering views of the vineyards, paddocks, and dam. Beyond lies the stunning mountainous terrain of the Keurbooms River Nature Reserve and Forestry. On hot summer days, guests can enjoy a light lunch made from locally sourced fresh ingredients while taking in the view.
