Klein Constantia
Winery Description
Location and History
Nestled on the upper slopes of the Constantiaberg, Klein Constantia is surrounded by ancient trees and offers breathtaking views of False Bay. The estate is part of a historic area surrounding Constantia, which Simon van der Stel established in 1685 for viticulture. Initially, the land was planted with diverse grape varieties on decomposed granite soils, benefiting from ocean breezes that create a cooling microclimate ideal for viticulture. The estate gained international fame for its Vin de Constance, a natural sweet wine first produced in 1692, which was favored by European nobility. Over time, Klein Constantia has revitalized its heritage, maintaining high standards under the guidance of dedicated winemakers. The estate focuses on producing terroir-driven wines that reflect the unique location, capturing the grandeur of the region's vineyards and the modern winemaking philosophy rooted in centuries of history.
