Wine Tasting
The inception of Luddite’s winemaking dates back to 2000, when they released their first vintage—a Shiraz, a varietal close to Niels Verburg’s heart. This marked the beginning of a focused commitment to producing high-quality wines that reflect the rich terroir of the region. In 2017, the winemaking legacy saw the inclusion of a new generation, with Niels’s daughter Alice joining the venture, infusing new energy and perspectives into the wine production process alongside her father.
Expanding their repertoire, Luddite began cultivating Chenin Blanc in 2012, enhancing their portfolio with a white varietal that has since become a staple of their production. The latest 2023 release of their Chenin Blanc was especially exclusive, with only 1,570 bottles produced, highlighting the boutique nature of their wine production. Additionally, Luddite introduced the Saboteur range, drawing on the diverse viticultural offerings of the Bot River Valley. This range features a red blend of Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon and a white blend that masterfully combines Chenin Blanc with Viognier and Blanc Fumé (Sauvignon Blanc), showcasing the versatility and collaborative spirit of the Bot River region.
