The history of Nabygelegen Private Cellar dates back to its founding in 1712 when Governor William Herlot granted the land. The initial vineyards and fruit groves were planted shortly after, contributing to a rich legacy in winemaking. Located in the Bovlei district of Wellington, this estate boasts a picturesque setting surrounded by mountains that create a favorable climate for grape cultivation. The vineyards thrive on diverse soils found in the valleys, which are a result of weathering and erosion, thus contributing to the unique character of the wines produced. Nabygelegen spans 35 hectares, with over 19.5 hectares dedicated to vineyards where varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, and Sémillon flourish.
