Winery Description
Location and History
The Kasteelsig Vineyard, situated in the heart of Swartland, is renowned for its ideal terroir that nurtures the development of flavorful grapes. This region, characterized by its clay-rich soils and a climate conducive to dry-land farming, is home to Nativo Winery. Founded in 2012 by Argentinian-born Billy Hughes and his late wife Penny, the winery reflects a journey that began in Mendoza and evolved in South Africa's top wine-producing area. The decision to transition from wheat farming to winemaking was a pivotal moment, aligning their passion for wine with the burgeoning wine culture of the Swartland region. The winery’s approach is rooted in organic and natural philosophies, underscoring their commitment to preserving the integrity of the soil and vines. By prioritizing sustainable farming methods, they aim to restore health and balance to the vineyard ecosystem over the years.
