Nestled in the scenic Swartland region of South Africa, Org de Rac rests off the N7 at R399, near Piketberg. The farm, founded by entrepreneur Nico Bacon in 2001, originally aimed to harness sustainable agriculture principles in winemaking. The winery’s vineyards flourish on ancient viticulture soils rich in iron, promoting the cultivation of diverse grape varieties in a Mediterranean climate characterized by warm summers and cold winters. The property's layout benefits from cooling breezes that sweep in from the nearby Atlantic Ocean, ensuring an ideal growing environment. This location enhances the unique terroir that influences the grapes' flavors, producing wines that reflect the essence of the region. Under the careful stewardship of General Manager Johan Gerber, the farm has become a leader in organic practices. The vineyard, developed with a focus on sustainability, prioritizes ecological balance by employing natural composting methods and introducing beneficial pests to maintain healthy vines. Wine Tasting
Visitors at Org de Rac can indulge in an enriching wine tasting experience that showcases a wide selection of their organically produced wines. The tasting room welcomes guests from Monday to Friday, between 9 am to 5 pm, and on Saturdays and public holidays from 9:30 am to 2 pm. The winery offers both estate and premium range wines, including popular varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Shiraz, and their distinct blends like the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot. Each tasting is curated to highlight the unique characteristics of the various cultivars grown on the estate, allowing guests to appreciate the distinct flavors and aromas resulting from organic farming methods. Notably, the tasting lineup often features limited editions and seasonal releases that allure both new and seasoned wine enthusiasts.
