Oude Compagnies Post

Winery Description

Location and History

Nestled in the enchanting Tulbagh valley, Oude Compagnies Post is a family-owned vineyard situated conveniently close to Cape Town. The farm has its roots dating back to the 1800s and initially functioned as a milking shed. It has since evolved into a delicate sanctuary where rustic charm meets modern wine production. The location boasts diverse terroir with rocky sandstone and heavy clay soils, providing an ideal microclimate additionally blessed by indigenous fynbos that grows alongside the vineyards. This natural flora adds complexity to the wines produced here, harmonizing with the farm's ethos of fusing nature with tradition. Covering 235 hectares, only 10 hectares are currently planted with grapevines. Varietals grown include Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Grenache, Mourvedre, Shiraz, and Assyrtiko. Dirk Swanepoel, the winemaker, promotes sustainable practices, highlighting the farm's commitment to ecological responsibility while producing boutique-style wines that reflect the unique characteristics of the region.
