Paul René Cap Classique
Winery Description
Location and History
Paul René Cap Classique is situated 1 km outside of Robertson on the road to McGregor. Here, owners Henk and Monica van Niekerk craft a range of Cap Classique wines. The estate is planted with noble vineyards, producing exquisite handcrafted wines that reflect the unique terroir of this particular area. Wine farming and winemaking at Wonderfontein Wine Estate is a long-standing tradition dating back to 1884. The beautifully manicured vineyards are a visual delight, with viticulture practices focused on environmental sustainability.
After several years of research and planning to perfect what goes into the bottle, it was Monica's task to handle the exterior. Having spent her childhood days in her grandmother’s art studio, Monica's creative vision for the unique Paul René Cap Classique look was undoubtedly shaped by those early experiences.
Wine Tasting
The Paul René Cap Classique range features a Brut Chardonnay, a Blanc de Blanc, and a Brut Rosé, a blend of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay. Their newest addition, the Paul René Nectar, is also a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, boasting a sweet caramel finish. Chardonnay grapes are handpicked from rich limestone soil vineyards early in the morning and chilled overnight. Each crate is carefully passed into the press before the whole berries are crushed. This process begins a meticulous 3-year journey to craft our PAUL RENÉ CAP CLASSIQUE Brut. Each bottle undergoes fermentation for no less than 20 months on the lees.
