Situated on the banks of the Breede River, Silverthorn Wines boasts a stunning view of the Riviersonderend mountains. The winery thrives in a region characterized by rocky, lime-rich soils and shale, reminiscent of the famed Champagne terroirs of France. Established in 1976 by Joachim Rieck, the property transitioned to his daughter Karen in 1992, who, alongside her husband John Loubser, transformed the farmland into a celebrated wine destination. The couple embraced their shared passion for wine, achieving their goal of producing high-quality Cap Classique wines through meticulous craftsmanship and a commitment to sustainability. Since its inception, Silverthorn has become a hallmark of excellence in South Africa’s sparkling wine scene, with a rich heritage concerning the cultivation of extraordinary grapes and innovative winemaking processes.
